Alaska

In accordance with Ballot Measure 1, which voters supported in the general election of 2024, Alaska’s minimum wage will increase from $11.91 to $13 on July 1st, the first of several planned increases.

With further $1 increases scheduled for July 1, 2026, and July 1, 2027, the proposal puts the state on track to attain a $15 minimum wage by 2027. The new law not only increases the minimum wage in the state but also bans required gatherings where businesses promote political or religious beliefs and mandates that firms offer paid sick leave to workers in Alaska (with some exceptions).

Oregon

On July 1, Oregon will increase the minimum wage as part of its yearly inflation-based changes.  Oregon’s minimum wage hikes have been linked to CPI since 2023, following the schedule first set by Senate Bill 1532, which was approved by the state legislature in 2016.  Three regional minimum wage rates are used by the state: standard, Portland metro, and non-urban. At $14.70 per hour, the national minimum wage will rise to $15.05 on July 1.

Communities including Benton, Clatsop, Columbia, Deschutes, and others are subject to this rate. The Portland metro area’s workers, including those in the urban development zone, will enjoy a $15.95 to $16.30 increase. The hourly minimum wage will rise from $13.70 to $14.05 for those living in non-urban areas, which includes most of rural counties.

Washington, D.C

The nation’s highest minimum wage is in Washington, D.C., and it may soon rise much farther. Since 2021, D.C. has raised the rate yearly, using the CPI to adjust it to inflation. From today, the minimum wage will increase from $17.50 to $17.95 per hour.

Additionally, the basic pay for tipped employees will rise from $10 to $12 per hour and if an employee’s hourly tips (plus base pay) fall short of the weekly minimum wage, the business have to make up the difference.

St. Paul, Minnesota

The city’s phased wage plan calls for micro and small businesses in St. Paul, Minnesota to increase their minimum wage rates on July 1. These organizations will increase their rates to $15 per hour for businesses with six to 100 employees and $13.25, respectively, for those with five or fewer. The minimum wage rate was raised from $15.47 to $15.97 earlier this year for macro businesses with 10,000 or more employees and big businesses with 101 to 10,000 employees.

California

Following the rejection of Proposition 32, a minimum wage initiative on the November 2024 ballot that would have raised the state minimum to $18, California voters increased the state minimum wage from $16 to $16.50 per hour earlier this year.

On July 1, local minimum wage rises will be implemented in a number of California cities and counties, even while the statutory minimum pay stays at $16.50. These rates often surpass the state minimum because of COL differences.
